We are urgently trying to recruit volunteer drivers to help our more elderly service users attend our social groups in Moray – particularly in Forres and Keith. Groups are also held in Elgin and Buckie. Full training and support will be provided, and your fuel expenses will be covered in full.
A number of factors, including the pandemic and the increase in the retirement age, have led to our current shortage. This means that there are times when we do not have enough drivers to transport everyone to groups and activities – leaving some of our service users essentially housebound.
Heather Roy, our Community Inclusion Coordinator in Moray, explains:
“The drivers make a huge difference to the morale of our users. We currently have no dedicated drivers and staff are picking up where possible. We are in dire need of dedicated drivers.
“If one of the staff is unavailable to drive, then the socials we organise will be
cancelled as no one is available to collect everyone. This leads to further social
isolation for people who are already vulnerable.
“I would encourage anyone who might be interested in volunteering with NESS in
the Moray area to get in touch,” Heather adds.
