We hope to share regular reviews of technology that people have found useful helping with day to day tasks. There is so much new technology, and it can be difficult to keep up with developments and know what would work for you personally. Kevin and Ryan, our ICT Officers, explain a bit more about the Amazon Echo Show which is proving to be popular.
Kevin says, “Could Alexa help you bake a Christmas cake? Finding and following recipes can be rather awkward when you have poor vision. Well, the Amazon Echo Show can help you find recipes, display them on its screen and read them to you. The Amazon Echo Show will talk you through the cooking process allowing you to take as long as you need on each step. With easy-to-use voice controls, a screen magnifier and screen reader, the Amazon Echo Show comes with either a 5- or 8-inch screen, with prices varying depending on the version you buy. A limiting factor is that it does require a Wi-Fi connection to work.
NESS has an Amazon Echo Show, so if you would like to see how it works, please get in touch with Kevin or Ryan to arrange to have a look at it. They will be able to arrange a viewing in any of our Resource Centres. The Amazon Echo Show is available to buy from most technology retailers.
If you’ve found a really useful piece of technology or an app that you would like to share a review of in a future NESS News, please get in touch with Kevin or Ryan, our ICT Officers, in the usual ways.
